About Dr. Shani Davis

Dr.Shani Davis has been a board certified advanced registered nurse practitioner for more than 23 years. She is passionate about providing care and related education to people with and affected by diabetes. She is a nationally certified diabetes care and education specialist and has held this credential since 2003. She attributes her clinical acumen and diabetes care proficiency to being mentored by industry leading professionals.

Dr. Davis is twice a Florida A&M University alum, receiving both bachelors and masters degrees from the School of Nursing in 1997 and 2001 respectively. She earned her Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of South Florida in 2013. She has since worked on research teams with Moffitt Cancer Center, Alignment Healthcare,True Blue Clinical Research, and the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES); formally AADE. Her capacity to simplify the complexities of diabetes, and motivate others to be better managers of their personal health, drives her advancement in these arenas. Advocacy for bettering personal health is important to her, and she has shared these sentiments on Bloom TV, and Good Day Tampa Bay to give encouragement to persons with and at risk for developing diabetes.

In 2016, Dr. Davis opened Your Best You, Personalized Primary and Diabetes Specialty Care, a nurse practitioner owned, full service primary and advanced diabetes care services clinic. Her health care delivery model also operates with community non-profits to address disparities in health regarding knowledge, access, and health resources to decrease stigma in seeking indigent care for those that need it. She takes seriously the adage of “each one, reach one” and gives back in service what the community has sowed into her practice. Additionally, she is a clinical investigator where she monitors the execution of clinical studies designed to inform clinical decisions for healthcare providers. She has served on the ACDES national research committee and media spokesperson panel, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Tampa Community Leadership Board, Tampa’s Central City Urban Core YMCA, American Cancer Society Board of Ambassadors, and is a part of the American Heart Association’s Circle of Red. She has been recognised by the Tampa Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. with the Passing the Torch Award for Leadership in Health, and is the 2024 American Heart Association Woman of Impact. She has led formal diabetes education programs in local churches, civic organizations, non for profit organizations, the county health department, as well as in offices of other health care providers on diabetes care, education and prevention. For the community, she was co-host of the Let’s Talk Business with Sherryl Cusseaux to raise awareness of health disparities and paths toward wellness and disease prevention to at-risk populations from 2018 -2024. As a missionary with the health service organization, Impact Life International, she is a loved and highly respected honorary member of the Bunker’s Hill, Clarendon Jamaica community. She is a proud and active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the mother of 2 fabulous young adults, and a yorkie.
